As long
as I can remember, genius has fascinated me. One of the first elective
papers I did in college was about developing genius in children.
The workings
of the mind and its interrelationship with Soul, psyche and emotional
well being has been a lifelong interest of mine. An excellent movie
about this is A Beautiful Mind: the
movie and the
book. The subject of the book, John Nash, is a Nobel Prize Economist.
His doctoral thesis, "Noncooperative Games" was published
in the early 1950s and is regarded as laying the mathematical foundations
for game theory.

believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in
your private heart is true for all men -- that is genius."

The
Chart of Genius
Both groups
wiggled and fidgeted. They were nervous interacting socially, could
not express themselves, often giggled inappropriately and displayed
immature emotional responses to sexuality and the opposite sex. (You
know, like your favorite Computer Nerd Pal.)
I later
discovered that Freud noticed this, too, when he said that his psychoanalytic
theories worked well for all but the genius and the psychotic.
The charts
of these two groups will have the above qualities in common. What
distinguishes the genius is that there is a tight grouping of planets.
Psychotics have a spread of planets, resulting in a lack of ability
to focus and concentrate that distinguishes them from their odd-man-odd
partners, the geniuses.
The charts
of genius will often have a prominent Pluto as well, sometimes through
such subtle aspects as parallels and contra-parallels or mutual receptions.
In interpreting
Margaret's chart in The Royals, Part I, our
example, we see many of these qualities; however, her Grand Cross dictates
that her planets are spread across the entire chart.
For a closer
look at a Grand Cross in action, click here.
Nancy anlysizes the chart of a man with a Grand Cardinal Cross.
I also
see genius in a prominence of the planet Uranus, the sign Aquarius and
in 11th house placements. It surprises me how many people have been
so brainwashed by teachers (or parents!) who were threatened by their
intelligence that they think they are stupid rather than brilliant.
This was
exactly the case with a man who came to me for a reading with a Stellium
in Gemini in the 11th house. His father, a Latin and Greek teacher in
a village in the Alps, contributed to his feelings of intellectual inferiority
by being didactic and insufferable. Actually, the son's mind worked
so much more quickly that those around him, including his own father,
that important others in his life failed to relate to him intellectually
at all. It is very healing for an astrologer to be able to point this
out, to say the least.
There are
more than a few brilliant women who have come to me through the years
who were so battered by their husbands that they seriously questioned
their basic intelligence. It is reassuring to consult the astrologer
and discover the truth in such matters.
Of course,
Uranus rules astrologers and we are a sharp bunch. You'll know that
if you set foot in your local astrologers' association meeting. (Did
they invent the computer just for us ;-)
Another
sign of brilliance can be many of sextiles. This is based on harmonics.
This harmonic relates to the 3rd and 11th house or Gemini and Aquarian
energy.
Well, now
you know what to look for, try it out. Let me know how it goes.
