The Art of Healing

I love this story called THE TWO ELDER BROTHERS from the introduction to Thomas Cleary's translation of The Art of War because it teaches us about healing ourselves. We can stop dis-ease before it reaches its physical form where it is so much more difficult to deal with.

Everything that exists in the physical manifest world was once a thought, idea or concept. We can think of these things as prototypes of blueprints. This is easy for the intuitive to grasp. What may not occur, however, is that we can move things around very easily while they are still "on their way to" manifesting, before they settle into the physical. This is what the two elder brothers do. [SEE ARTICLE IN RIGHT HAND COLUMN.]

In modern American terms, I like to think of "heading it off at the pass" or "seeing it coming a mile away".

For example, a man wrote me an email about himself and wanted help. I saw his picture. His face was dark red. He was at least 75 lbs. overweight. I saw that he was dealing in a risky business, speculative real estate, and that his general demeanor was desperate. I told him my observations and suggested that he make changes in his life. I told him I thought his business was dishonest and that he needed to take a look at that.

The next month he had a heart attack in church and wanted to know why I had not warned him. "But I did warn you," I said. And in time to do something about it.

Some of the best things in life are free!

Some Profound Forms
of Self-Healing that are Free

  • conscious breathing
  • Yoga
  • gratitude
  • eating in a peaceful environment
  • eating consciously
  • peace of mind
  • a sense of humor
  • moderation in all things
  • making at least one thing more important than yourself

WHAT IS A HIGH STRESS LIFESTYLE?

The reason stress reduction is imperative for good health is that ongoing stress strips our adrenal glands and erodes the ability of our immune system to protect us from all the conditions which are impinging on us every day.

Some don't know that it is possible to be free of headaches, stomach aches, fatigue, nervousness and anxiety. It is!

Smoking, alcohol, drugs, sugar and caffeine, preservatives and hormones are counter productive to good health. The body can't reach its natural state with these substances.

If you're starting a new health program, begin by eliminating these substances. It may take awhile for your body to adjust.

People who can help you with this are Oriental (Eastern) healers such as acupuncture, acupressure, Ayurvedic, massage therapy, stone massage, water therapies (spa). These modalities give you support and encouragement.

You Can Heal Yourself!

Learn to listen to your body. Today I spoke with a young woman who wants to develop her intuition. She couldn't keep out appointment because she had just come back from lunch with a friend and her stomach was upset. After I talked with her briefly, she realized that every time she had lunch with this friend her stomach got upset.

Another client just returned from a trip to the east coast for a funeral where she was to encounter several members of her family from whom she was estranged (by choice). She was unable to attend the funeral because she became ill and could not leave her bed for four days. She thought perhaps "God" was keeping her from attending. I suggested perhaps it was her sisters, both of whom hated her and had toxic energy.

If you would like to learn more about psychic attacks, read Dion Fortune's book Psychic Self Defense. Pat attention to how your body feels before and after you interact with every individual with whom you have contact. Learn to avoid those who have toxic energy.

About The Art of War: Classics may be interesting and even entertaining but people always find they are not like books used for diversion, which give up all of their content at once; the classics seem to grow wiser as we grow wiser more useful the more we sue them. -- Thomas Cleary

The range of awareness and efficiency of the [healer] is unnoticeable, imperceptible to others, because their critical moments take place before ordinary intelligence has mapped out a description of the situation. [They think we are imagining things :-) ]

PAY ATTENTION

Another way you can develop your subtle energy is to pay attention ... pay attention to how you feel before and after you interact with each person during the day. By this we mean, how your feel in your body.

Do you find yourself energized or drained? Do you "suddenly" have a headache, a stomachache? Do you feel depressed or angry?

This will teach you slowly that energy moves around beneath the threshold of awareness and behind the visible plane. That's just the beginning.

Who Killed Bryan?

The ancient Greeks had a saying, "Every man is his own physician after the age of thirty."

I take this to mean ... if you live to be thirty, you know what works and doesn't work for you.

Most discover at this age what runs them down, how much stress they can handle and what type, where the weak points in their system are.

please watch your stress

If you don't honor what works and doesn't work for you by the time you're thirty, no doctor can help you!

A friend of ours died last year of lung cancer. Someone said, "Bryan thought it was the radiation treatments that killed him. The doctors gave him a dose this big when it should have been that big."

An innocent girl cried out, "But wasn't he a chain smoker?"

It wasn't "the doctor" that killed Bryan. It wasn't the radiation. It was 40 years of chain smoking.

The doctor is not in charge of our health, we are. By the time we set foot in the doctor's office, it's too late! Only WE can prevent the things that happen to us if we ignore our bodies and what they are telling us. The doctor can work with the symptoms and mask things like pain and progressive damage. But WE are the only ones who could have prevented it.

How do we do this? There are 3 ways.

But first, let's make sure we're on the same page. It is possible to feel good almost all the time ... no headaches, no stomach aches, no irritability ... that's what we're going for here.

I grew up in a home with two chain smokers, a coal furnace and indoor fireplaces with storm windows (no ventilation). My eyes were always red and irritated. I had frequent respiratory problems. I thought there was something wrong with me. No!!! I moved to California and got some fresh air. I'm fine.

1. Assume responsibility for your own health and well being. Sometimes this means growing up in a sense and taking back our own power from authority figures such as "The Doctor".

2. Pay attention to what stresses you. Stress brings down your immune system and destroys your body's natural ability to fight off all conditions of things. Keep yourself in a positive environment. If this means leaving behind some friends and family members, so be it.

3. Educate yourself about nutrition, health lifestyle and the wisdom of the ages. Sometimes it's helpful to identify people who seem healthy to you, who seem "ageless" and observe their habits. Throughout the ages there are a few things that remain constant: fresh air, sunshine, good will towards fellow wo/man, peace of mind, simple (raw) foods and regular exercise. How fortunate these are things that we can all afford.

Things I Learned from The Art of War

If you want to avoid something you must learn how to have it first. To undo, you must do first. Those who refuse to study war will never know how to stop one. This is why I study military history. See Jonathan Keegan.

Everything that is really important happens first on the most subtle planes. At that point it is very easy to change or redirect energy. Therefore, you must develop yourself to the most subtle point so that you can perceive these things. To others they will remain invisible. To those who live in the five-senses world they remain "imaginary". People who are not intuitive think we are making everything up. What a pity they do not have eyes to see.

If you really want to change, you must get yourself on killing ground. In The Art of War, this is to take the army so far into enemy territory that it is more dangerous for men to retreat than to stand ground. In essence, this is what alcoholics do when they "reach bottom". However, the wise one does this on the subtle plane and the army represents our inner forces. It is not necessary to involve the physical body.

Every once in awhile someone thinks I'm not pursuing an aggressive marketing campaign because I'm stupid. Sages hide in unfathomability, so their feelings cannot be observed. They operate in formlessness, so their lines cannot be crossed. They remain invisible so that they can observe every thing ... somewhat like the page card in the Tarot deck. Sometimes it is wisdom to play the fool.

Moral power manifests itself both as self-mastery and influence over others.

Nonresistance: a military operation is like a fire; if it is not stopped, it will burn itself out.

THE TWO ELDER BROTHERS

These paragraphs are excerpted from Thomas Cleary's introduction to The Art of War, one of the oldest books in the world. The title really should be, The Art of Preventing War. The story begins ...

According to an old story, a lord of ancient China once asked his physician, a member of a family of healers, which of them was the most skilled in the art.

The physician whose reputation was such that his name became synonymous with medical science in China, replied, "My eldest brother sees the spirit of sickness and removes it before it takes shape, so his name does not get out of the house.

"My elder brother cures sickness when it is still extremely minute, so his name does not get out of the neighborhood.

"As for me, I puncture veins, prescribe potions, and massage skin, so from time to time my name gets out and is heard among the lords."

This story works with the same principle as one of my favorite sayings: If you're in the Tao, you don't talk about it. If you talk about it, you're not in the Tao.

The most subtle forms of healing that take place may not even be noticed by you. There are people placed quietly around the world who do this work. They aren't on tv. They don't write best selling books. To see them, you must have eyes to see.

Two books that can prepare you to see these people are Ardath and Romance of Two Worlds by Marie Corelli. You can download these books for free from Project Gutenburg by pressing the link.

If you are intuitive, I recommend these books to you.

Corelli lived between 1855 and 1924 (the Victorian Era).

If you are not intuitive, I recommend Yoga and Martial Arts. This way your body will learn things without your permission!

Quotes from
Thomas Cleary's
Introduction to
The Art of War

Those who are skilled in combat do not become angered. Those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus the wise win before they fight, while the ignorant fight to win.

This idea of knowing while being unknown, repeated again and again [is] a key to success.

The simultaneous appreciation of very different points of view is a powerful Taoist technique. That Sun Tzu calmly teaches the ruthless art of war while condemning war [is a perfect example].... Understanding how people can be manipulated through emotions, for example, is as useful for those who wish to avoid this as it is for those who wish to practice it.

Speed does not mean haste.

When victory is won, it should be complete, to avoid the expense of maintaining an occupation force :-)

When you know both yourself and others, you are never in danger.

The idea is to be filled with energy while at the same time draining opponents.

The five dangers: to be too willing to die, too eager to live, too quick to anger, too puritanical or too sentimental.

Real ruthlessness, the coldness of complete objectivity, always includes oneself in its cutting assessment of the real situation.

The paradox of ambiguity is an exact science in the Taoist literature of higher psychology.
