Let's look at one of the most interesting chart patterns, the locomotive. When the planets are spread out over a large number of consecutive signs, the planet that leads the others in a clockwise direction is called the locomotive planet. It "pulls" the others. Often this planet is dominant for the person, indicating a strong area in the person's life.

People with locomotive charts typically attack problems head on. If you have a locomotive chart pattern, try to think of yourself this way! Be thoughtful about your goals. Once you focus and put this much energy behind it, it's hard to stop.

In both the charts I've chosen, the locomotive planet is the Moon.

Mindy's chart

In this first chart, Mindy has her Moon in Cancer in the 11th house leading the others. Mindy's mother (the Moon) was an alcoholic who had her at a very early age, raised her in a series of unstable marriages and forced Mindy into the role of the parent which eventually alienated her from her siblings.

The scars and strengths of this relationship have been a driving force in Mindy's life.

Carols' chart

The locomotive planet in Carol's chart is the Moon in Aries in the 5th house. Carol can't say enough nice things about her mother. Carol's mom has been warm, supportive, creative, courageous and inspiring.

Carol describes her relationship with her mother as "profound".

Recently when Carol was having trouble getting out of an abusive relationship, she called on her mom for assistance. She says, "No words could possibly express my gratitude for having a mother like her in my life."

The other chart patterns are splay, splash, bundle, bucket, see-saw and bowl.
