ANALYSIS OF LETTER FROM
NAPOLEON
by PENELOPE BLANCHARD
At
the time Penelope Blanchard did her analysis, the writer was anonymous.
However, this is the letter of surrender by Napoleon to the British
generals after Waterloo so it was written in extreme circumstances.
Napoleon was almost fifty years old.
I
have found this Handwriting analysis to be quite interesting
and a stimulating challenge. It has been established that there
is no way to identify whether any writer is male or female so,
for the sake of simply avoiding confusion, I will be referring
to this subject as masculine.
This
writer has great respect for tradition and honors it with good
manners and conformity to the demands of society. It is apparent
that he is very well educated, quite possibly, on an individual
basis or in private school. The general overall look of the
writing is harmonious. The right slant is extreme and it appears
to me that his writer may be left handed. He is naturally introverted
Even
though it is obvious that he has a higher than average intelligence,
perhaps even genius, and is quite mature and a logical thinker,
he lacks social independence and confidence. He is quite dependent
upon others and has a great need for protection, security, love
and nurturing.
There
is a great concern with the self and the past as well, as the
future. He just can't let go of his past. He also relies on
his past experiences to serve as a guide for the future. Even
though future experiences are quite frightening for him, and
there are great fears for the self, he is, on the other hand,
eager to see what tomorrow brings. So he tries very hard to
be cautious about being spontaneous or impulsive in his actions.
I say "tries" because he constantly fears that he
may lose control and become a volcano of emotional reactions
as he is extremely ardent, passionate, jealous and easily offended.
He is susceptible to hurt and can hate bitterly and with abandon,
and he loves the same way, is restless, unsettled, impulsive
and capable of hysteria and wears himself out.
:He
is strongly influenced by likes and dislikes and can be stirred
by others as well as stir other people's emotions. He can plunge
into relationships or "A Causes", in short, he can
be an emotional wildfire. I believe it is for this reason that
he avoids sharing or exposing his feeling to a wide audience
and would prefer to stick to a tedious job for long periods
without becoming tired or bored. He can feel safe in his solitude,
without outside influences that can move him to what he considers
undesirable action.
This
writer has a strong intellect, as mentioned before, and is most
interested in academic or mental activities. He is capable of
solving
abstract problems, but is not interested in striving mightily
for new ideals or ideas, being rather narrow minded, he tends
to be resistant to new ideas. He is capable of coping well with
the daily stresses of work to maintain the status quo. He is
able to complete goals on time and with a minimum of distractions.
He
is a steady and serious person with a good control and intellect.
He's reliable is most likely successful in not letting his emotions
interfere with his mental capacity, when it comes to his work.
There
is a need for physical, mental and emotional freedom. This person
could be a recluse or a very private person as he is poised
perceptive and thoroughly organized, but rather aloof.
It
is also rather curious that he shows little drive for material
or physical comforts and pleasures in life, yet, he uses every
bit of his available space and resources, without hesitation.
This
script shows a very good sense of rhythm and is sensitive and
highly impressionable. He takes a broad view of the world and
wants to see and know everything. He possesses an innate sense
of curiosity that may draw him into unusual situations. There
is a love here of all the arts and a desire to follow his own
talents. Often, though, this type person may sublimate his own
creativity in order to bring it out in others. He also seeks
appreciation over material rewards and consequently would make
a good teacher or social worker as well. As a matter of fact
he sows little drive for material or physical comforts and pleasures
in life.
This
person is a genuine diplomat and can be very evasive and posses
an intuitive awareness of how to use the environment to his
own advantage (manipulative). He is most capable of seeing the
whole broad picture of a situation. He may even point out a
different direction of thinking as his method of evading the
present crisis. He insists on his social distance as he has
a need for self protection. He often will seem aloof and is
often evasive in his personal interactions, trusting few people,
he keeps his guard up at all times. He is a quick thinker who
may have a need to hide his true feelings. Or I can give him
the benefit of the doubt and say that this person is an intellectual,
original and versatile, but doesn't communicate well with others.
On
the negative side, this writer can be very undisciplined and
unpredictable. He won't give himself a particular course of
action and won't be pinned down and often will not even stand
up for his own convictions. Again, this person is unsure about
the world as well as not being sure of himself. Thus making
himself hard to understand. When he makes a decision more than
likely he will change his mind. He can often be socially inconsiderate
and eccentric in his attitudes even though he knows how to use
his social skills. Others often find this type writer most fascinating.
This person also has deep seated and unresolved emotional ties
with the Mother figure , if a male he is not capable of being
involved sexually with another woman or if a female, she is
always searching for a Mother
replacement. Perhaps may have experienced the loss or abandonment
of the Mother, at an early age, which could also explain the
insecurity issues that plague this person, thus producing those
strong self-protective tendencies.
My
overall impression is that the subject has lead an unusual life,
which provided this person with a great education and training
in the social graces. I believe him to be very creative and
artistic and very much a recluse, in an effort to protect and
insulate himself from imagined dangers of the world. I think
he honestly harbored a deep hunger for both social and physical
relationships that he would not allow himself , on the grounds
that he may lose control emotionally.
NOTE:
THIS HANDWRITING SAMPLE IS FROM THE SURRENDER NOTE THAT NAPOLEON
WROTE TO THE BRITISH (DUKE OF WELLINGTON) AFTER WATERLOO WHEN
ALL WAS LOST TO HIM. MS. BLANCHARD DID NOT KNOW THIS AT THE
TIME OF HER INTERPRETATION.
