President Bush fits the Gemini/Sagittarian Profile of this Time Period very nicely. We could hardly have chosen a more fitting president ;-) Let's do some keyword astrology.
President Bush was "elected" November 7, 2000 with Mercury Retrograde. For awhile he was the president but wasn't; there were two presidents and there were none. Sounds like Gemini to me!
His brother, the Governor of Florida, played a key hand in the election.
He has fraternal twins (daughters). That's very Gemini.
His use of language is just really the thang. It is constantly commented on. Perhaps this will be a good lesson to the uninitiated: the man's chart has every sign of genius. It is typical to not be able to use words well. If you haven't read my article on the signs of genius in a chart interpretation, go to genius.html.
Bush's Chart
The data for this chart is from Rodden's AstroDatabank.
I won't spend a lot of time on Bush's Chart, but it is a very, very interesting one, especially in light of the intensity of the current situation.
All of his planets are in trine between Uranus in the 11th at 19 Gemini and Jupiter in the 3rd at 18 Libra. This is quite rare. The emphasis is on the Ascendant side of the chart, obviously.
If you know harmonics, you will begin to get the mental drift of this chart which is not conveyed in Bush's personal linguistic style (ahem). With Mercury sitting right on the Ascendant like that, afflicted by Pluto on the one hand and Saturn on the other, what you see may not necessarily at all be what you get. This chart is an excellent example of the difficulty of dealing constructively with the Ascendant when it is so at odds with the overall chart. My guess is that it's more of a problem for us than it is for Bush!
"Too stupid to run for office," is a website about our president. Is this true? Well, my answer: he wasn't too stupid to win.
Since I stay relatively un"polluted" by public opinion, and am apolitical, I am just going to read this chart.
I am willing to bet that this man has a very brilliant mind hidden under that Don't-Mess-with-Texas Ascendant. It would seem from this chart that he is working behind the scenes (on either end of that trine) for diplomatic and Aquarian, for lack of a better word, solutions to the problems that are in his face. His favorite methods are diplomacy and inspiration.
Clinton's Venus Rising in Libra was a weak crowd pleaser. You know, Sweet William, the Ladies Man.
Looking outward, Bush's Libra (in the 3rd) is a good rendition of the iron fist in the velvet glove with a little Henry Kissinger thrown in. I think Bush has a good chart for a strategic leader, a general. He is fearless, inventive and relentless. If he feels attacked personally, he will be vicious in response: Mars square Uranus.
Looking inward, Bush's 12th house Saturn in Cancer makes him feel parental toward his country, his people and his "clan". When they are attacked, he is attacked. His responses are like that of a guard dog.
You realize, of course, with that Saturn in the 12th that he is finishing up the job his father started and did not finish. It should not surprise us if he goes after Saddam Hussein. It is his legacy. I am amused to think of the symbolism here. Hussein put Bush Sr.'s face in mosaic in the airport so that everyone would walk across it (oh, those Arabs). [This was written before the Iraqi Invasion.]
Look again at Bush Jr.'s "face", his Ascendant. Has it been walked on? Could it be walked on? These symbols are an important part of the message in every chart. You could almost subtitle Jr,'s Chart, "The Face that WILL not be walked on"!
Bush's Libra is connected to Jupiter and Uranus, the planets of higher levels of thought, and they inhabit the very mental 3rd and 11th houses. It is quite possible that he is inspired. Let's hope so.
Bush's chart fits the criteria for genius better than, say, Princess Margaret's. That may sound a bit facetious, but in The Royals, we considered her frustrated ambition. Despite a good deal of prominent Uranian energy, Margaret's chart contains a Grand Cross which spreads the planets into every sector of the chart. In Bush's chart, all planets are contained within 120 degrees.
I would read the process inherent in this chart like this: The man leads with his chin, draws the punch and then works in a ceaseless and rather artful gyre to evolve resolution, strategy, diplomacy and actually, just maybe, the very best possible solution. It's no surprise to me that he made it to president when I look at this chart. It's a very powerful and exciting chart that is comfortable playing itself out in the global arena.
Bush's Mars, in earthy and practical Virgo in the 2nd house, could be weak, but it is tied by a square to Uranus (and the North Node) in the 11th house.
This Mars can also be accident prone, because Mars/Uranus is about "off" timing, but so far the "accidents" seem to fall in his favor ... like the accident where he found himself president.
By the way, can you see how this man would get a chip down the wrong way? His chart has the mutable problem of "choking up", "gasping", "wheezing" and so forth. Gemini has difficulty with regulating to the rhythmic in and out of life.
Here is the chart again. Look at that North Node. It is exactly conjunct Uranus at 19 degrees Gemini in the 11th house.
Now there isn't an astrologer in the world who doesn't want to know what's going to happen when Saturn hits that North Node.
The date for this event will be June 14, 2002. That is exactly 16 days after the tense return of Saturn to an exact opposition with Pluto at 16 degrees Gemini, which is the configuration under which Nine One One took place.
Now let's look for a minute at the 12th house. If you've followed the work Erin Sullivan is doing in family astrology, we see that Bush carries the collective very potently in that 12th house. I am tempted to say that if America continues to be the safe and stable place it has been, or if it transforms into some radical and revolutionary new experience, the person in this chart could very well be a container for those energies. However, it is a very reassuring Saturn. Saturn in Cancer is the father that will not leave the vulnerable baby prey.
With Saturn in Cancer there is a very deep caring in this man, for his personal family, but also for the human family, which he experiences at a deep subconscious level as his own. It is poignant in this context that he is also finishing his father's business.
Bush has several planets in square to one another. Let's look again.
This configuration makes me think that Bush has had some difficulty taking on the seriousness of his life task, as evidenced, again, by that 12th house Saturn. It's hard to blame him. That's quite a debt owed to the collective.
It is likely Bush tried to escape for awhile into the social, political and intellectual pleasures of that Libra Moon in the 3rd house with its aspects to Jupiter, and Uranus in the 11th ... engaging in activities and interests that were stimulating, yet detached. We know how people are with their Saturns. He would have avoided anything too binding or emotional, as such, for as long as possible. With that Mercury Rising, we might say that he tricked himself into a position of caring for the United States through a very difficult time. (He messed around and fell in love ;-)
What began as a power game and the fascination of political strategy, coupled with a possible desire to compete with his siblings (Mercury/Pluto in Leo Rising) for position in the pecking order and a restless heritage of prominence and achievement in the immediate foreground, finds him now, sobering to the experience of the great weight he bears upon his shoulders in guiding this nation through one of the most difficult times it has had. I would compare this to a young man who finds himself reluctantly a father and yet who grows enormously through the experience. It would be safe to surmise, that at last, there is something that George Bush cares for more than he will admit and that is his "people", his country.
We see this displayed outwardly in the activities of "his people" -- never in my lifetime and I am quite mature -- have I seen so many little and big flags, signs, bumper stickers, tokens and totems that proclaim a bountiful love of country.
As to what will happen during the time when Saturn is transiting Bush's North Node, I see two possibilities ... in keeping with our Gemini theme. In the first case, if the chip he "choked on" was really a small stroke, there could be a grand finale. I personally have not heard of someone passing out when they are "choking" but it could happen. It sounded like a small stroke to me.
If he were to die of a stroke, I would read in this chart that it was a sudden (notwithstanding the chip incident) and massive release -- with fireworks and a John Philip Sousa March -- from his physical body back into the cosmos, like the Fool in the Tarot Deck. Because his work was done and that was his reward ... Saturn brings rewards. (North Node conjunct Uranus in the 11th house) Charles Darwin has his North Node conjunct Uranus in the 11th (in Scorpio). Click here to learn more. Two examples of other prominent figures with Saturn in the 12th: Charles Darwin also had Saturn in the 12th. He did a lot of work to bring heritage forward (to pot it mildly!) O.J. Simpson has Saturn in the 12th and seems to be carrying a heavy burden for the collective. He personifies for Blacks, a black man who has totally made it in the white world. And for some whites, he personifies a usurping and disregard for that position. (You might say he couldn't win for losing.)
On the other hand, if this man carries some of the destiny of this country in his natal pack, so to speak, he may stay around for awhile ;-) and we will see a growing appreciation and gratefulness from Americans and the people in the world that Americans protect for his guidance over troubled waters. Saturn brings this kind of rewards, too. It is possible that this man, if he lives, will become one of the most beloved presidents in history. Go figure. That is the personal promise of Saturn in Cancer in the 12th.
America's BirthChart Astrologer's don't agree on the birth chart of the United States (see leading contenders). But there are some fixed elements that we can be sure of:
You know how it is with astrology, you can tell the energy but you can't tell how someone is going to use it. I'd say Bush is going to be either VERY good or VERY bad for this country.
This page is dedicated to my father, Ray Garrett, Jr., and my grandfather Ray Garrett, Sr., veterans of World War II and World War I. NANCY'S READERS COMMENT: 9.25.2004 Tasha Somers, website asha I'm commenting on something you said in the article about Bush. When someone starts choking at first they cough and try to dislodge it, then they have a difficult time breathing and start to pass out, because when you pass out your brain needs less oxygen and your tongue sort of moves out of the way, and your body relaxes so that you can swallow the food or whatever it is. So you CAN pass out when choking, thought you should correct that. If you don't believe me, ask your local fire department, I took a CPR class just in case your wondering. And Bush has been VERY VERY VERY bad for this country and the world. He could destroy earth if given the chance at another 4 years, maybe you should do a chart on Kerry, and another one on Bush vs America in the next 4 years. Hope he chokes myself but that's just me and 99% of America.
