RETURN IN PISCES
INTRODUCTION
Saturn Return is a word astrologers use to describe the coming of
age or initiation into adulthood which takes place between 28 and
30 years old. At this time the planet Saturn has circled your chart
and returns to the place where it was at the time of your birth.
Invariably, this marks one of the most important times in your life,
a time of endings and beginnings, a time to discover your authentic
self and correct your course in life if it seems you're heading
in the wrong direction.
The
Saturn Return, which lasts about two years, is a time for introspection
and self-evaluation. It is a time of taking responsibility and often
a time for making serious choices.
Saturn
Return energy is like pruning. Not all directions in life are bad
ones, but they may not be the best ones. Saturn Return asks
us to forsake so-so directions and have the courage to find the
one that is most like us, the one we were intended for when we were
born.
The trouble
is, this may not be the one our parents had planned for us.
Saturn
Return is a time to consider your unique individual needs, the contribution
you want to make to the world, the resources that are important
to you, inner and outer, and who will go with you on your journey.
Making
the right choices, the authentic choices, at 30 guarantees more
happiness and fulfillment later in life and usually better health
because it is stressful to live a lie. Stress is a major contributor
to all physical illnesses.
There
is actually a Saturn Return every 30 years. The second Saturn Return
occurs when you are between 58 and 60 years old. Those who live
long enough, like Robert McNamara,
may also experience a third Saturn Return.

Here
are some of the things that have happened to famous people during
their Saturn Returns:
- ECKART
TOLLE,
author of The Power of Now had a conversion experience
at 30 and began his life as a spiritual teacher.
- GWYNETH
PALTROW's
father died just as she was starting work on the film about Sylvia
Plath's life and suicide. After, she decided to take at least
a year off, saying, 'I worked so much in my 20s, and I really
burned the candle at both ends and I wasn't too picky about what
I did,'she said. 'I think the combination of losing my father,
turning 30, taking a year off has completely shifted everything.'"
She has recently become a mother.
- Just
turning 30, WINSTON CHURCHILL
followed his father's footsteps, crossing the floor of Parliament
to the liberal side (over Tariff Reform), an event which would
have lasting repercussions in his life.
- FLORENCE
NIGHTINGALE did the unheard of at 30 for a woman of
her era. She left home for the Crimean War, beginning one of the
most influential lives of the early 20th century.
- STANLEY
KUBRICK, turning 30, made his first major studio film,
the powerful antiwar movie Paths of Glory starring Kirk
Douglas.
- JOHN
FORBES NASH, JR. (A Beautiful Mind) married,
had a child and experienced the onset of his mental illness at
about 30.
- ARNOLD
SCHWARZENEGGER met his
wife Maria Shriver at a tennis tournament when he was 30; they
married two years later. 30 years later, preparing for his second
Saturn Return, Schwarzenegger was elected governor and apologized
for a lifetime of womanizing.
- At
30, LEO TOLSTOY ended
a life of gambling, fornicating and murder (his own words) to
start a charitable peasants' school on his estate. This is the
man whose book The Kingdom of God Is Within You influenced
Gandhi to begin his passive resistance movement. Tolstoy also
tried at this time to give his serfs their freedom and to give
them his land but they were suspicious and refused. 30 years later
at his second Saturn Return, Tolstoy tried to will his estate
and property to his serfs but his wife and children revolted.
- ROY
HORN (Siegfried & Roy) was mauled by Montecore,
the white tiger, right in the middle of his second Saturn Return

If
you have been pursuing a career or lifestyle to please someone else,
there is a sense of urgency at the Saturn Return to make important
changes. Sometimes this means retraining for a career, lowering
income to make a lateral move or even divorce. Statistically, more
divorces take place in America when people are between 28 and 30
than any other time. On the other hand, some people marry and take
on big responsibilities at that time.
With
a sense of urgency, it can seem like everything has to be done all
at one time but the transit actually takes place over a couple of
years. Not all the changes have to happen at one time.
Naturally
some people are more comfortable with change than others. For example,
those with SATURN
IN TAURUS may need to make the most changes and
they may be the most resistant. Change can also be frightening to
the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.
Saturn
Return also brings pressure to change attitudes toward parents,
those in authority, develop a new relationship to God or begin a
spiritual path, make adjustments to the community you live in, move
to a more compatible place or embrace a new religion or culture,
sometimes through marriage.
Naturally
these are some of the reasons people "over thirty" are
so different from people "under thirty". Coming of age
doesn't occur at 18 or 21, as our culture asserts, but rather at
28-30 during the Saturn Return.
Liz
Greene, internationally famous astrologer, explains in Saturn:
A New Look at an Old Devil that Saturn "... is never easy
to deal with because his function is that of promoting growth, and
it is only frustration and pain which at present are sufficient
goads to get a human being moving."

STRESS
IN SUN SIGNS
Because there is stress connected with the frustration and pain
of growth and change, inner, outer or both, many people experience
these common reactions to stress: nervousness, anxiety, irritability,
depression, insomnia, neurotic feelings, feelings of vulnerability,
drinking or smoking, over eating and insecurity or "analysis
paralysis". Most people go through some sort of identity crisis
as well. Click

CONCLUSION
Saturn Return is like asking you to clean out your garage, or your
closet. As intense as it can be, it removes all the built-up clutter
in your life to reveal a more authentic path and a more authentic
you. Sometimes people leave your life, sometimes through death,
sometimes through choice.
If
you do a thorough job during your first Saturn Return, between the
ages of 28 and 30, the rest of your life will be better and your
second Saturn Return will be easier. If you fail to rise to the
task at 28-30, your second Saturn Return, ages 58-60, when you are
more deeply entrenched in an inauthentic life, may be difficult
indeed. This is one of the reasons many people die betwen 58 and
60. They may not have met the challenges of the first Saturn Return
and at the time of the second, the stress is overwhelming. One of
the reasons I'm writing these articles is that, unforuntately, both
of my parents died during their second Saturn Returns.
