Other articles for Leo and Saturn in Leo

Introduction

Especially if you have Saturn in Leo or a Stellium in Leo or in the fifth house, please study this intuitive rendering of the solar gods throughout time and space.

Reading some of these myths will help your subconscious present you with creative solutions to your life path.

In essence, you're supposed to act as the Sun in the lives of others. That means, not a renunciation of your own life, or a banishment to living in the shadows of others, but instead to a positive affirmation of life in all creatures and a dedication of your self to promoting others, to inviting them up onto the stage of life.

You will also want to be the director and producer of your own life as dramatic art. Notice I didn't say MELOdramatic. If you are unclear about the difference, the best way is to educate your tastes by reading literature and listening to music that those with experience have identified as "great". This usually includes the Greek dramatists, Shakespeare, Tolstoy, certain operas. The distinguishing characteristic is that there is a greatness to the characters as well as flaws. Unfortunately on Jerry Spring, there are flaws without greatness, thus little chance for redemption, and that is melodrama.

This article is in process and the theme will be developed as time permits, given my other many projects. Nancy R. Fenn

The diagram is based on one found in The Luminaries: The Psychology of the Sun and Moon in the Horoscope, by Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas. Both Greene and Sasportas have Saturn in Leo.

Rubedo
Reddening in Alchemy
The Chemical Wedding (alchemical)

Alchemy is the early or right-brained version of chemistry. Originally an attempt by early "chemists" to turn lead into gold, it is called the Opus or Great Work and the result is called the Philosopher's Stone.

Without getting too technical here in a short space, at a time when there was not such a differentiation between right and left brain pursuits, the chemical Opus became comingled with symbols and subconscious expressions of an individual's process of individuation (enlightenment). This phenomenon has been explored exhaustively by Carl Jung, his disciple Marie Louise von Franz and his close associate Karl Kerenyi.

The Opus begins by taking the prima materia, Mercury, the base matter at hand, that which is to be turned to gold and doing things to it. . There are many recipes (take this and add that...), many stages, never in the same order but near the end there must be "blood," or what the alchemists call the rubedo or "redness" of life. A pure white substance becomes united with this red by firing up the alembic and putting upon it a lid. What is dross is burned away as the white and red are merged and bonded.

In the typical illustration below, white would be associated with the Queen and red with the King. The royal pair are now risen transformed above the dragon unconscious in coniunctio oppositorum or marriage of opposites.

This is also called the 'chymical marriage', or hieros gamos.

The final stage is shown below, the lapis philosophorum, the hermaphrodite embodying the united King and Queen. This is the so-called "third thing", the "Rebis", a divine rebirth to consciousness.

Knowing the basic alcehmical processes and symbols becomes more important as your knowledge through Jungian psychology and metaphysics progresses. The symbols repeat themselves throughout the history of our western world. Once recognized, you will see them anywhere from Chartres to artists like Kurt Godwin. Here are two good websites about alchemy: THE ALCHEMY LAB and the astounding ALCHEMY WEBSITE.
