What got you interested in astrology? Always have been, but coming upon astrocartography 20-some years ago during a period of upheaval and cross-country relocation really made me pay attention to it.
How old were you when you had your first reading? Probably 32 of so .
How often do you get a reading? I read a lot on my own, particularly psychological analyses of the various aspects in my chart.
We consult with astrologers from time to time, usually a periods of great stress and change to see if we can get a handle on the situation.

How did you learn? I say "yes" because I have read extensively and gained a lot of personal insights from that reading, and understand quite a bit about the subject. I cannot "do charts" however . . .

How did you learn? Took a class where we meditated on the symbols. Then I read and studied for 5-7 years and did charts for everyone I knew so I could understand.
What do you like about astrology? Not much. Most of what I've read/learned about myself has been shallow. However, I am careful when mercury is retrograde and I have observed the happenings in my past when there was a saturn transit.

Is there anything else you would like to say? I understand from reading that quintiles carry a special message but I've never
found any information about how to interpret them. I have a quintile between saturn (Gemini) + the moon (Pisces). Sounds dreadful.

What got you interested in astrology? Just curiosity. My husband and I went to see an elderly German lady who lived in Pt. Loma. She drew the charts by hand. Lots of people in California are interested in these types of things.

counselor, part humorists, part artist. Someone who can truly take the facts and
weave them together to make the constellation of the charts needed. Someone who
is trustworthy and discreet. Mostly I think being an astrologer is one part
reporter and one part humanitarian. You have to know how to focus on the
positive while sharing the shadow sides-we all have them. Astrologers if they
are any good can share all the energies that influence a person and that person

What got you interested in astrology? I've always been interested in astrology. Even when my sister and brother were born (when I was 5 and 9) my second question after "was it a boy or a girl?" was "what time?" It was as if I realized even then that this was important. Maybe it's a past life thing!! (smile)
But I REALLY got interested in it when I read a book by Jesse Stearn many years ago called A Time for Astrology in which astrologers were able to make predictions that came true. I was absolutely captivated by that possibility -- and I wanted to be able to do THAT ... not rely on someone I might or might not be able to trust was doing good or competent work.
Several years after diving deep into the study of astrology because of that book, I read it again ... and knew enough this time to see how MUCH of what was written there was absolute bullshit!! (sorry!!)
Jess Stearn wasn't an astrologer and didn't pretend to be. His book was just a record of him reporting what was told to him BY astrologers. (We can only assume that he reported these conversations factually.)
It was then that I began to grasp HOW MUCH ROOM there is for idiocy, error, and plain old ignorance operating behind this glamorous guise of "fortune-telling." And it was that realization that made me redouble my efforts to become REALLY GOOD at this craft so I would have its benefits and NEVER have to depend on the skill, knowledge, or expertise of someone else!! I was hooked for sure!!
(But honestly, I still think there's a lot of past life influence at work in my passion ... and my destiny. It's too powerful, and in some ways, too eerie, to explain any other way!!)
How old were you when you had your first reading? My first actual astrology readings were the ones I did myself while learning the
skill. I was in my mid-20's.
How often do you get a reading? I am CONSTANTLY working with this in my own life and the lives of those I care about. I do the Solar and Lunar Returns without fail for myself and my husband. I don't go more than a few days without being into the charts ... looking at what's happening. And though I stay up-to-the-minute in my knowledge of what's happening, it's not like I check my horoscope before I get out of bed every day. I can -- and want to -- live with awareness -- but I still have to live in the real world!
Have you learned astrology for yourself? yes
How did you learn? Virtually ALL of it by self-study and reading everything I could get my hands on!! I tried to find tutors and teachers in the beginning, but they just didn't work for me. That's kind of my pattern, though -- says she with Sun, Mercury, and Mars in the 3rd House -- Leo on the 9th. I've GOT to be the one running the show, and I do so much better when I can.
What do you like about astrology? Its accuracy. The fact that you can SEE what's going on ... and when ... and how long it will be needing your attention. In my writing I talk about using astrology to understand "what life is asking of you." That's its greatest use as far as I'm concerned. Honestly, I'd be lost without it!! I canNOT IMAGINE the terror of having to face life and the future not knowing at least the SHAPE of "what's out there."
What do you think makes a good astrologer? A deep love of metaphysical subjects and an open mind. My own studies of Jungian psychology, tarot, mysticism, mythology, shamanism, etc., have all merged and blended with astrology so that they are inseparable components in my overall life's philosophy now. My whole world view comes from this perspective now .... It's not really off the mark to call this consolidation of knowledge "my religion."
Is there anything else you would like to say? I REALLY get annoyed at the way Astrology is constantly twisted into silliness,
stupidity, and shallow lame-brained"entertainment." (As you know!!) This marvelous craft gets dressed up by hucksters to look like a 50 cent whore ... in skimpy clothes and too much make up to put on a gaudy show "for the masses" ... and the cheapness and sleaziness of it all is finally just revolting.
People naturally think THAT's what Astrology is ... the insipid "horoscopes," the notion that your life is controlled "by the stars," the idea that you're just a "victim" of whatever's happening with Saturn ... or Pluto ... in your chart at any given time.
Sometimes ... I just want to deck somebody!! (It's how a double Aries with Sagittarius rising reacts to such provocation. HA!!!)

What got you interested in astrology? When I was a kid I noticed my mother always read her horoscope, by Omar, in the
newspaper. So I started keeping up with mine on a daily basis. Very often it seemed to ring true. As I got older I learned by buying a few books on Astrology that there was a rising sign and that each planet had a different placement for each person, this facinated me very much. I started reading my rising sign too and found that it certainly applied to my daily happenings too. Thus my interested kept expanding and it still goes looking for more and more information. I only wish I had had time to study more when I was young and I was able to absorbed so much more infomration in my head than I can now.
How old were you when you had your first reading? My guess would be about thirty nine years old. I was single, actually newly divorced, and my family was grown and out on their own. Since I had no one to tell my things like I was waisting my time and money I was free to do what I wanted. It was great and then later I took a very short introtuctive class from Terry Lamb.
How often do you get a reading? I have gotten about three readings in the past year and a half and taken lessons from you, Nancy, so I look very often to see what is going on for me.
Have you learned astrology for yourself? yes
How did you learn? By reading books now and then. Over a period about 50 years or so I have picked up a lot of yearly reading books and over the counter monthly readings. I like getting some input that is helpful and often something I haven't even considered or thought of.
What do you like about astrology? I like it because it adds interest in my life and it helps me to get some understanding and insight into how and why others think and act as they do. I really can't think of anything more interesting than human behavior and to me that is what Astrology is all about.
What do you think makes a good astrologer? Someone who is genuinly interested in helping their fellow human beings to accept themselves and others as having potential and worth as well as help them see that everything is not static, but ever constantly changing and that things can turn to a better situation when they are feeling defeated or lonely.

How often do you get a reading? It varies throughout phases of my life. At low times I've gotten various kinds of New Age readings 2 or 3 times a week. Now I'd say it's around 2 or 3 times a year.

Why Sagittarius? You can be yourself around a Sag. They give you space. They're usually pretty funny, too. I think Capricorns are funny, also, but they take themselves too seriously.

What do you like about astrology? I think it is so fascinating. It gives a quick glimpse into a person that could
otherwise take months to figure out in therapy. I think it is such a great tool
to use while navigating through life. It helps one to navigate!
What do you think makes a good astrologer? Being conscientious, sensitive, intuitive and
a good listener as well as a good ommunicator.
I also like my astrologer to have a strong spiritual basis underneath them as they speak.

What got you interested in astrology? I remember my older sister lightly playing with it when I was a kid (1960s). I didn't give it any attention in my 20s or even 30s. Then in my mid 30s I started to try to find answers. My life was not rewarding me the way I wanted it to. I felt I needed guidance. I tried investigating a lot of new age avenues. I bought a tarot deck, but it was so complicated. I read a few books, but again felt it was a maze. I still like playing with it though.
How old were you when you had your first reading? I got a reading in my late 30s from an astrologer that had a radio show. He was the first astrologer I heard up close. Now I am in my 40s and I look back on him as probably giving me some leads in solving a few things, but overall I feel he was soooo egotistical and wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise, (not a good quality for the helping profession). I think he also focused on mental qualities and didn't have any real feeling about "feelings".
How often do you get a reading? I just got the one reading. I may get another sometime in the future. (You did a mini saturn reading for me which I really appreciated). I use my dreams over the last year to help me, and it has been a great help.
Have you learned astrology for yourself? no
How did you learn? I know a couple of things. I learned that most of my planets fall into two houses, which is enlightening. Also I found out a long time ago I have a lot of scorpio in my chart, which explains why I was so good at tae kwon do.
What do you like about astrology? I like the fact that it can help you understand yourself. I guess I am not 100% believer. But I love investigating and the people I have known who run away from astrology, I feel are basically just scared of knowing certain things, or are echoing the opinions of their parents who boohooed such things.
What do you think makes a good astrologer? I think that they should have a very big gift, since it is such a nebulous type
of knowledge, you can easily kid yourself or someone else, and no one benefits
from faulty knowledge. Also I think to be a natural helper/healer/listener and to have strict honesty and good motives.
Is there anything else you would like to say? I enjoy reading your website. I like reading your essays on introverts, and trying to help empower them. It surely isn't easy being an introvert in this society and people looking for an advantage, seem to attack that part of you, so having some fortification is very good.

How often do you get a reading? Not often enough. Received the irst one in over 20 years from you this summer.

How did you learn? Books like Spiritual Astrology plus classes at Morningland in Long Beach, CA.
What do you like about astrology? It cuts right to the core of things, right through social training, education, race, religion, politics, all biases and overlays. It gently turns the lights on in ven the darkest recesses of your soul giving opportunity for full self knowledge and acceptance. I love that.
What do you think makes a good astrologer? One who has clear vision of themselves and knowing that The All is all, has that clear vision of others and the ability of express what they see in love.
Is there anything else you would like to say? I am so grateful to be alive today and in a country where we are not burned at the stake for seeking, seeing and speaking the Truth.
