Here
are some interesting quotes about astrology by astrologers.
Robert
Hand
"Essentially,
astrology is a language and does not need scientific proofs
to be effective. Therefore I would say that positive results
in the scientific study of astrology have to be taken seriously,
undeniably, but negative results not so seriously. I don't
think that science is yet capable of dealing with the full
complexity of the symbolic language as employed by astrologers."
[ An Interview with Robert Hand by Francoise Gauguelin,
NCGR Research Journal, 1989]

Greene
"Any
understanding of the language of astrology must commence
with a realisation of what the birth horoscope can and cannot
tell us. ... the birth map does not plot the fate of the
individual in a predestined way. Rather, it symbolises the
basic lines of his character's potential development.
br> A lot of people are frightened of astrology because
they believe it claims to predict fate. Once upon a time,
during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, it claimed to
do precisely that. But astrology as evolved since then,
just as medicine has. We in the West - unlike India - don't
like to think that there's any factor shaping our lives
except ourselves and the tax collector.
"Astrology
also suggest that the individual's temperament is inherent
at birth, and an understanding of astrology may be of help
in perceiving the nature of this seed which develops into
the adult ego. It can not only tell us about the self we
know, but also about the one we do not know.
"The
horoscope describes a person's inner nature ... The more
unaware they are of the stuff of which they're made, the
more 'fated' they are by their own inner self. ... The more
aware (or we might say conscious) they are, the more choices
they have. ... This is the meaning of fate in astrology.
"Lately,
there has been a good deal of public outcry from academia
against astrology as well as from the scientific community
at large; which has apparently got a little frightened by
its popularity. ... but no matter how strenuously it's proclaimed
that astrology is really a load of medieval superstitious
nonsense, belief in it is spreading." [Liz Greene]

"If
the astrologer thinks he merely gives bits of information
and then is through with the whole thing, he is greatly
mistaken. He has established a relationship.
"When
the astrologer interprets the birth-chart of his client
and conveys to him the results, what he does - or can do
- is to change to some extent the orientation of the client
toward the basic foundations and possibilities of his life.
Such a change of orientation can have far-reaching effects.
...
"The
astrologer discussing the client's birth-chart is thus responsible
for helping him to establish a new relationship between
his conscious ego and the potentialities inherent in his
total naturre. It is, or at least it can be, an enormous
responsibility.... The client is almost totally unprotected
... Even if he reasons himself out of being consciously
affected by the forecasts, his subconscious memory does
not let go. This is worse obviously if the event or trend
prophesied is unfortunate and if fear of its results is
aroused - which is the case in nine cases out of ten! -
but it can even have psychologically disintegrating effects
when the thing expected is very fortunate, for it may lead
to a self-satisfied expectancy blurring the edges of the
individual's efforts.
"Whoever
gives knowledge is to some extent responsible for the use
to which it is put, especially if the use is most readily
predictable in view of the character of the person (or the
collectivity) to which it is given and of the circumstances
in which the disclosure is made.
"Knowledge
implies responsibility. The astrologer who practices this
art must assume responsibility for the use of this knowledge.
When the event-oriented astrologer approaches his work,
he assumes little responsibility for the results his statements
may have upon the psychological condition of his clients,
concerning himself with the material success of his clients
and the prediction of events, rather than the personal integration
and self-actualization of those who seek his serivces."

"So-called
critical aspects seem to bring to a person astrologically
aware of them sharper and often more upsetting confrontations
than they did before he knew about astrology. ... It may
be that by establishing a conscious contact with his celestial
Name (his birth-chart) the individual made himself more
open to a downpour of the karma, held as it were in suspension
in his unconscious, and more willing to accept it to the
full without evasion. I would indeed tell any person who
seeks proficiency in astrological knowledge: Are you ready
and willing to meet up to the hilt your destiny? Are you
really intent upon discovering your true Name? If not, leave
astrology alone. It might only bring you confusion."
